FAQs

Do you accept insurance?

No we do not. Volkert Psychiatry is a private pay practice and considered an out-of-network provider. Families pay at the time of service and receive documentation (a superbill) that can be submitted to insurance for potential reimbursement, depending on your plan.

What does “out-of-network” mean for me?

You pay directly at the time of service. You may be reimbursed by your insurance provider if you have out-of-network benefits. Reimbursement amounts vary by plan.

What should I ask my insurance company?

If you’d like to check your coverage, ask:

  • Do I have out-of-network benefits for outpatient psychiatric services?

  • What is my deductible?

  • What percentage of the fee is reimbursed?

  • Do I need prior authorization or specific forms?

Why is Dr. Volkert listed as in-network elsewhere?

You may see his name in insurance directories due to work with a separate employer. Volkert Psychiatry is a private, independent practice and not affiliated with any insurance networks.

What are the fees?

  • Child/Adolescent Evaluation: $700

  • Child/Adolescent Follow-up: $350

  • Adult Evaluation: $550

  • Adult Follow-up: $275

  • Parent Consultation: $250

What is the cancellation policy?

Appointments must be canceled or rescheduled at least 24 hours in advance. Late cancellations or no-shows are charged the full session fee.

How do I handle medication refills?

Refills are provided during appointments. Requests between visits require at least 3 business days’ notice. Early refill requests for controlled substances cannot be accommodated.

Do you offer telehealth?

Yes. Secure, HIPAA-compliant telepsychiatry appointments are available. Patients must be physically located in Pennsylvania during the session.

What if I have an emergency?

For urgent safety concerns, call 911 or 988, or go to your nearest emergency room. Non-urgent messages should be sent through the patient portal and are typically answered within 2 business days.
